Frequently Asked Questions

What is a neuropsychological evaluation?

A neuropsychological evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning. It uses standardized tests, clinical interviews, and medical history to understand how the brain is functioning and to clarify diagnoses, guide treatment, and support decision-making.

Who should consider neuropsychological testing?

Neuropsychological testing may be helpful for individuals experiencing:

  • Attention, learning, or academic difficulties

  • Memory problems or cognitive decline

  • Effects of concussion or traumatic brain injury

  • Neurodevelopmental concerns

  • Neurological or medical conditions affecting cognition

  • Mood, anxiety, or personality factors impacting functioning

Evaluations are appropriate for children, adolescents, adults, and older adults.

What happens during the evaluation?

The evaluation typically includes:

  • A detailed clinical interview

  • Standardized cognitive and psychological testing

  • Review of relevant records

  • A comprehensive written report

  • A feedback session to review findings and recommendations

How long does testing take?

Testing time varies depending on the referral question and age of the individual. Most evaluations involve several hours of testing, often completed in one or more sessions. Total time includes test administration, scoring, interpretation, and report writing.

What areas are assessed?

Areas commonly assessed include:

  • Intellectual functioning

  • Attention and executive functioning

  • Learning and memory

  • Language and visuospatial skills

  • Processing speed

  • Emotional and psychological functioning

Testing is tailored to each individual’s needs.

How should I prepare for the evaluation?

  • Get a good night’s sleep

  • Eat beforehand

  • Take medications as prescribed unless otherwise directed

  • Bring glasses, hearing aids, or assistive devices if needed

  • Bring relevant records (school reports, prior evaluations, medical records)

Specific instructions will be provided prior to your appointment.

Will the results be explained to me?

Yes. A feedback session is provided to review the results in clear, understandable terms. Recommendations are discussed and tailored to your goals, whether academic, medical, occupational, or personal.

How long does it take to receive the report?

Written reports are typically completed within 2–4 weeks after testing, depending on the complexity of the evaluation.

Do you accept insurance?

Services are provided on a private pay basis. The practice does not bill insurance directly but can provide documentation that patients may submit to their insurance carrier for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

Why choose a private pay neuropsychological evaluation?

Private pay allows for:

  • Comprehensive testing without insurance limitations

  • Greater flexibility in evaluation length and scope

  • Clinical decision-making based solely on patient needs

Can results be shared with other providers or schools?

With written authorization, results can be shared with physicians, therapists, schools, or other professionals involved in care.

How do I schedule an evaluation?

To request an evaluation or ask questions, please contact the office directly by phone or email.
